About Andy Warhol (1928-1987)
American Pop Art icon whose Factory industrialized image-making and erased the line between commerce and fine art. Closely associated with Roy Lichtenstein (Pop comic-strip painter) and Robert Rauschenberg (combine-painter precursor). For an intellectual contrast, see Mark Rothko, Abstract Expressionist of the deeply personal color field — Rothko stood for emotional depth and singular authorship — exactly what Warhol's silkscreen production line industrially refused.
