I think honestly, some people who think they're gay, they're confused. People can misconstrue closeness for love. People can feel connected, they bond. I'm not saying all [gay people are confused]. Some people have a desire to be with the same sex. But that's them.

We all know that slavery was not a choice. So I just think that people need to understand that if you know your history, if you know the truth, you know that's just foolishness.

If you had an emergency situation and needed to go to the hospital, and you had to get there right away, would you want me driving your car?

It's too much bullsh*t. I follow the truth.

I am sick that politicians try and find an easy solution to a 400-year problem. I am sick of some people using God for convenience rather than a commitment. I am sick of lies and deceit that dominate our reality. I am sick that the truth is struggling to be heard and defended. What we say, has not been what we do, and this country must reconcile our words and deeds.

We live in a society where Black music, one time, was called 'race music.' Where jazz was considered something nasty, you know? I don't know, I felt that if God didn't want me to sing it, he wouldn't have given me the talent to do it!

I've never accepted stupidity and ignorance as making me then determine how good I was or how less I was.

It could have been worse. I could have been born black.

Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn't mean he lacks vision.

I'm not a politician. I'm just a musician who cares.

Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand.

I was born blind, but I was never blind in my mind.

Do you know, it's funny, but I never thought of being blind as a disadvantage, and I never thought of being black as a disadvantage.
