I'm going to say something controversial right now, Carl Lewis – I have no respect for him. He is just looking for attention because nobody really talks much about him. It was really sad for me when I heard what he was saying, it was upsetting. I've lost all respect for him. It was all about drugs stuff for me. For an athlete to be out of the sport saying that was really upsetting.

If you can prove that someone genuinely did [performance-enhancing drugs] on purpose, then ban them for life.

You can't be happy about doping at all, it's not good for the sport. But over the years we're doing a better job, it's getting clean and we're catching up to a lot of athletes. There's an understanding that, listen, if you cheat you will get caught. Over time the sport will get better. I said a couple of years ago it had to get really bad, when there's nowhere else to go but up. The only way track and field has left to go is up.
